Time tracking
Time tracking built into every task
Start a timer from any task or type the time you spent, like 1h30. See each task's total next to its estimate, and a report of time per person and per task.
Does Shaire include time tracking?
Yes. Every task in Shaire has a timer and a worklog. Each person runs one timer at a time, visible from every page, or logs time by typing a duration such as 1h30 or 90m. The task shows its total next to its estimate, and a time report covers the last 7, 30 or 90 days per person and per task. There are no timesheets, billable rates or approvals. Time tracking is included in every plan, and an admin can switch it off.
What you can do
A timer on every task
Start the timer from the task header. It keeps running while you move around the app, and a chip in the sidebar shows it.
One timer at a time
Starting a new timer stops the one already running, so the same hour is never counted twice.
Log time in plain text
Type 1h30, 90m, 1.5h or 2:15. Shaire shows how it read the duration before you save, and a note is optional.
Totals next to the estimate
Each task shows its tracked total and its estimate side by side, with every entry listed by person and date.
A time report
See time per person and per task over the last 7, 30 or 90 days, for a list, a milestone or a sprint.
A check on long timers
When a timer has been running for more than eight hours, Shaire asks you to check that it is right.
Time sits on the task, next to its docs
Time is logged on tasks, and each task's worklog sits in the same panel as the pages linked to it. Scope the time report to a milestone to see what a goal has taken so far, then open the milestone to read the brief that explains it.
Time where the work is
Time tracking in Shaire is not a separate app. It lives on each task, next to the description, the comments and the linked docs. Start the timer when you pick up a task and stop it when you are done. If you forget, the timer keeps running and a chip in the sidebar reminds you, on every page and even from another workspace.
One timer, no double counting
Each person has one running timer. Start another and Shaire stops the first and tells you how long it ran, so the same hour is never counted twice. If a timer has been running for more than eight hours, Shaire asks you to check that it is right before the number lands in a report.
Log time the way you say it
Not every hour is spent at the keyboard. After a meeting or a call, open the task and type what it took: 1h30, 90m, 1.5h and 2:15 all work. Shaire shows how it read the duration before you save, and you can add a note to say what the time was for.
Compare tracked time with the estimate
Each task shows its tracked total next to its estimate and lists every entry with its duration, person, date and note. When a task runs long, you see it on the task itself rather than weeks later in a spreadsheet.
Report on the team’s time
The time report covers the last 7, 30 or 90 days. See the time each person logged and how many entries they made, and the time spent on each task next to its estimate. Scope the report to a list, a milestone or a sprint to answer a specific question, such as what a release actually took.
Keep it light
Time tracking in Shaire is made for a team that wants to know where its time goes, not for billing clients by the hour. There are no timesheets, rates, invoices or approvals, and time data cannot be exported. If you bill time, a dedicated time tracking tool will serve you better. If your team does not track time at all, an admin can switch the feature off and it leaves the interface.
Limits to know about
No timesheets
There is no weekly grid of hours per day, and a typed entry always ends at the moment you log it.
No billing or approvals
Entries have no billable flag or rates, and there is no approval step before time counts.
No editing an entry
To correct an entry, delete it and log it again. A deleted entry cannot be restored.
No export
Time data cannot be exported to a spreadsheet or sent to an invoicing tool.
Fixed report windows
The report covers the last 7, 30 or 90 days. There is no custom date range, and milestones and sprints do not show a time total outside the report.
No idle detection
A timer keeps running until you stop it. Shaire does not detect idle time or stop a timer on its own.
Common questions
Can I log time for yesterday?
Not directly. A typed entry is recorded as a duration that ends when you log it. You can still add the time and say which day it was for in the note.
Can two timers run at once?
No. Each person has one running timer across all their workspaces. Starting another stops the first and tells you how long it ran.
Who can log and remove time?
Anyone who can edit a list can log time on its tasks. Only the person who logged an entry, or an admin, can remove it.
Can we turn time tracking off?
Yes. An admin can switch it off for the workspace. The timer, the worklog and the time report then leave the interface, and the time already logged is kept.
