What Asana does well

Portfolios and goals

Asana connects work across departments to company goals. Portfolios, timelines and capacity planning cover a whole organisation. A manager can see what forty people in marketing, sales and operations are doing this quarter.

An automation engine

Asana rules combine triggers, conditions and actions, with approvals and proofing built in. Teams use them to route work from one department to the next.

A platform for large organisations

Asana offers SSO, custom dashboards, a mobile app and AI features. Its interface is familiar to non-technical teams, so marketing, operations and HR can work in the same tool.

What Shaire does well

Tasks and docs in one place

A milestone page holds a filtered task list that stays current. You can promote a checklist item in a project brief into a task, and the task links back to the line it came from. The documentation lives in the same workspace, with no second subscription.

Built for software teams

Sprints carry capacity limits and roll unfinished work forward. The GitHub and GitLab integrations link branches and pull requests by task key and can move the task when the work moves.

Calendar and timeline views on every list

Switch any list to a calendar or a timeline. Draw dependencies as arrows on the Gantt chart, or drag tasks across a month. Nothing needs to be configured first.

Asana helps an organisation see what every department is working on and when it will be done. Portfolios, goals and timelines give managers that view across marketing, sales and operations.

Shaire is built for a team of five to twenty-five that plans its work and writes it down in the same place. Tasks and documentation share one product, one search box and one permission model.

Tasks and docs in one product

Asana tracks work through tasks, project briefs and descriptions. For longer writing, such as architecture decisions or onboarding runbooks, teams usually pair it with a second tool like Notion or Google Docs. That means two subscriptions, two permission models and links pasted by hand between them.

In Shaire, the block editor, the page tree and the task board are one product. A project brief holds a filtered task list that stays current. A line in a spec can become a task that links back to where it came from. A milestone carries the writing that explains it.

One price for the whole team

Asana charges per seat. Starter is $10.99 per user per month billed yearly, which is $109.90 a month for ten people. Advanced is $249.90 for the same ten people.

Per-seat pricing puts a price on every invitation: the designer who wants to follow one task, the freelancer joining for six weeks, the support person who needs a technical note. When each seat costs money, those people often stay out, and the context moves to a chat thread.

Shaire prices by the workspace. Team is €20 a month for up to ten people, with 10 GB of storage. Growth is €59 a month for up to twenty-five, with 50 GB, so the eleventh person moves the workspace to the next plan. The plan sets how many people the workspace holds and how much storage it has. Every feature is on every plan, including the free one.

When storage is full, new uploads stop and every file already there stays readable.

Ready for software teams on day one

A new Shaire workspace starts with six statuses. Workflow rules and custom fields are there when a team wants them, and nothing needs to be set up before work starts.

Shaire includes sprints with capacity limits that roll unfinished work forward, burndown charts, point estimates, and branch and pull request linking for GitHub and GitLab. Calendar and timeline views are available on every list.

How to choose

Choose Asana if

  • You coordinate non-technical teams across several departments.
  • You need SSO, data export or an importer for your existing projects.
  • Your workflows rely on multi-step automation with conditions and approvals.

Choose Shaire if

  • You are a software team that wants tasks and documentation in the same tool.
  • You want sprints, point estimates and branch tracking that work without setup.
  • You want a flat €20 a month, so inviting a freelancer costs nothing extra.

Common questions

How is Shaire different from Asana?

Asana coordinates work across departments, with portfolios, goals and an automation engine. Shaire is built for a software team of five to twenty-five. It puts a task tracker, with sprints, point estimates and GitHub and GitLab linking, in the same product as the team's documentation, with one search and one permission model.

Is Asana free for small teams?

Yes. Asana Personal is free for up to two users, and so is Shaire's free plan. Asana keeps some features for its paid tiers. Shaire includes every feature on every plan, including the free one. A smaller plan has less storage, not fewer features.

Can I import my Asana projects?

Shaire has no importer, from Asana or from any other tool. Projects you bring across are moved by hand.

What does it cost for ten people?

Asana Starter is $10.99 per user per month billed yearly, which is $109.90 a month. Shaire Team is €20 a month for the whole workspace, up to ten people. Going from three people to ten does not change the invoice, so inviting a designer or a support agent to read a technical note costs nothing extra.

What happens if I want to leave Shaire?

An owner can close a workspace at any time. On day zero, Shaire cancels the Stripe subscription, removes our webhooks from your git provider and hides the workspace. On day thirty, it destroys the data. In between, the workspace can be recovered by hand. You do not need to file a support request to leave.
