Shaire vs Jira
Jira is a deep, configurable tracker, and writing docs means adding Confluence. Shaire gives you tasks and a wiki in one tool for €20 a month.
Is Shaire a good alternative to Jira?
Shaire is a Jira alternative for teams of five to twenty-five that want tasks and documentation in one product. Jira is free for up to ten users and pairs with Confluence, a separate product with its own bill, for documentation. Shaire costs €20 a month for a workspace of up to ten people, tracker and wiki included. Jira offers an automation engine, SLAs, JQL, a marketplace, SSO and a mobile app, which Shaire does not.

What Jira does well
Free for a team of ten
Atlassian offers Jira at $0 for up to ten users, on a permanent free plan. A team of ten or fewer can run its tracker at no cost.
A full automation engine
Jira includes a rule builder with triggers, conditions and actions that reach across your tools. Teams use it to automate steps in a deployment pipeline.
Precise search with JQL
Jira Query Language lets you write exact queries and reports across many projects. It suits organisations that search large volumes of tickets.
What Shaire does well
The tracker and wiki are one product
Shaire has a page tree next to the tracker, with one search box and one permission model. You can promote a checklist item into a task, and the task links back to the line it came from.
Workflow rules without a project scheme
Transition rules set which status may follow which, per status group. You set them in the app, with no project scheme to maintain.
Timeline and calendar views built in
Every list has a timeline with dependency arrows and a calendar you can drag tasks on. Both are included on every plan, including the free one.
Shaire is a project tracker and a team wiki in one product, built for teams of five to twenty-five. Jira is a tracker, and Atlassian sells documentation separately as Confluence. This page compares the two on features and price.
One product or two
Jira does not include a document editor. Atlassian sells Confluence separately, with its own bill. Atlassian prices both from a sliding calculator, so the figure depends on your headcount. Read it on their pricing page. Either way, you run two products, with two bills and two permission models.
Shaire costs a flat €20 a month for a workspace of up to ten people, and €59 a month for up to twenty-five. The tracker and the wiki are the same application. Inviting a designer who only needs to read a brief does not change the bill. The price changes once, when the team grows past ten.
Tasks and documents in one place
When a spec lives in one product and its tasks in another, the link between them is a URL someone pasted. Shaire keeps both in one workspace, with one search box and one permission model.
- A page can hold a live filtered task list. When someone closes a task, the list on the page stays current.
- You can promote a checklist item in a spec into a task. The task links back to the line it came from.
- A milestone spans several lists and carries the writing that explains it.
Configuration
Jira can model almost any process, with custom work types, compliance rules and trigger-based automation. Large organisations use that range, often with someone who administers it.
Shaire works on day one. You create a list and start. Six statuses exist as soon as the workspace does. Custom fields, transition rules, an audit log and timeline views are there when your team wants them. Recurring tasks handle repeat work.
Leaving Shaire
An owner can close a workspace from Settings. On day zero, Shaire cancels the subscription, removes its webhooks from your git provider and hides the workspace. On day thirty, the data is deleted permanently. Until then, you can restore the workspace yourself, without a support request.
How to choose
Choose Jira if
- You need SLAs, custom work types and a trigger-based automation engine.
- You need single sign-on, a native mobile app or a data export.
- You are ten people or fewer, want a free tracker and do not need a wiki.
Choose Shaire if
- You want a project tracker and a wiki on one bill.
- Your specs live in a separate tool and drift from the tasks they describe.
- You want custom fields, workflow rules and timeline views without configuring a project scheme.
Common questions
Is Jira free for ten people?
Yes. Atlassian's Jira Free plan covers up to ten users, and it is a permanent plan. Documentation lives in Confluence, a separate product with its own bill.
What does €20 a month cover in Shaire?
A workspace of up to ten people, with the tracker and the wiki together. Every feature is on every plan. The plan sets how many people the workspace holds and how much it stores: 10 GB at €20, and 50 GB at €59 for up to twenty-five people. The free plan covers two people and 512 MB.
What happens if we try Shaire and decide to leave?
An owner can close the workspace from Settings. On day zero, Shaire cancels your Stripe subscription, removes its webhooks from your git provider and hides the workspace. On day thirty, the data is deleted permanently. Until then, you can restore the workspace yourself.
How is Shaire different from Jira?
Jira is a configurable tracker for organisations of any size, extended by Confluence and the Atlassian Marketplace. Shaire is built for teams of five to twenty-five. It puts tasks and documentation in one product, works with its defaults on day one and is priced per workspace.
